in 32-bit Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista. Whether you will actually see a difference if you install the maximum amount of memory depends the mix of applications you run. With Win-XP, stick to under 4 gig. I have no idea of what Vista handles well. I know what Vista handles well, as Vista has built-in diagnostics.

Vista review
I can have Kubuntu up and running on my machine with all my development tools and a 3D Accelerated Desktop in probably less than 2 hours. About a minute quicker than XP too. Does it mean 640x480 on the screen? Means 1600x1200 at 32bits per pixel fully 3D Accelerated with Beryl if I want.

Corporate PC buyers want Linux with VM XP - not Vista
I've just had the same problem using Vista 32; I synchronize my quicken files between my XP laptop and my Vista desktop machines, so when the problem of missing transactions came up I thought that I might have overwirtten the more current file with the older version. About four days transactions were missing.

Comments on Vista RC1....
The latter will be more expensive and we have a limited budget. My plan is to load the XP and Vista OSs on separate hard drives and swap them out as reuired. I would remove the screws to the Install VPC (Virtual PC), then add as many systems as you want and there will be no intermixing of the different os's Joe.

Vista Is Bad But Linux Is Horrendous!!!!
I seem to remember that would cause XP to suck for a while, the first time it was turned on. Have you eliminated that as a possibility? (Admittedly, that would show questionable design---surely Microsoft would want Vista to give a very good impression initially, and to defer such expensive tasks until later (and

Running XP and Vista on One Laptop
XP has no problem with it. I was amazed at how well Vista did at identifying devices and getting them working. I did a clean install on a brandy-new SATA drive, I did have to download the latest / greatest ATI Catalyst update to get my graphics setup working right and OpenGL games to not just explode violently.

Quicken 2008 Deluxe Vista 64 bit - Couple of questions
If I buy XP now, I won't install it for at least two years, and by then they may have the bugs out of Vista or they may have Twista, or whatever OS replaces Vista. because I'll want something else in 2 years or XP will be really cheap by then (second hand, for example). ??? **Could Vista run to slow for me?

Vista?
If you have a PowerPC Mac and want to run Windows, don't waste your time with Virtual PC. Get an Intel Mac and use Boot Camp, Parallels or VMware Fusion. There's also Bootcamp which Boot Camp is free (supplied by Apple) and allows you to install Windows XP (with service pack 2) or any version of Windows Vista.

If you want to endorse Enron, Worldcom, and George W Bush, you should use XP. To show I hate Apple or Microsoft? At least with Apple you'll get some real value. Of course, those boxes have more than enough power to run Linux under VMWare or Virtual PC. You will receive a laptop that is 100% Marist ready -- this

I'm just going to have to push how much longer I wait, and plan my upgrades a lot more carefully. XP doesn't care about hardware changes after (if I remember correctly) six After six months, you can do what you want to your hardware and it couldn't care less, at least until you re- install/re-activate.

Before attempting a Vista install/upgrade it's recommended you run Microsoft's Vista Upgrade Advisor to help anticipate & plan for possible I have my suspicions as well that what they do is load everything (Drivers and software) at the moment in XP and then upgrade it to Vista but I may be wrong.

BTW, I usually avoid cross-posting, but since I have no idea whether my problems are mobo-driver-related or Win XP Pro-related, I'm posting this message to both groups.

Question about Vista installation
Well, yes actually lots I am forcing my SO at home to run Windows Vista on a Centino 900Mhz laptop with 512MB of RAM. But that's okay, just click on the tool to install it to a USB flash drive. What you then have is a complete, customisable working environment on a stick that you can carry around with you.
