By the time Vista ships it will be even better, and running on more modern hardware. But I guarantee you, when you get to the $1000-$1200 level, there is NO Mac which will be outfitted with more I have to admit that after having used a PowerMac G5 that I certainly never want to go back to the Windows platform.

At any point, you could get that extra drive and run Linux as your primary OS in about 20 minutes. You could then install Windows in the VM, install both That's nice when you want to "queue up" what you are going to show next. Assuming it works and I have my doubts seeing as every overhead, electronic easel etc

Will the new mac pros be able to run vista?
The point is probably moot; Vista is power hungry, and based on my experience with XP Pro, which is less demanding, I don't know that I would want to run Vista in such a way that it was sharing resources with OS X. (OP said he is getting an iMac.) I have a Bootcamp installation of XP Pro on a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo

Microsoft XP after Vista
Microsoft isn't claiming Vista will be more stable and robust than XP, it's claiming it'll have all sorts of fluffy little cosmetic touches. Whoopee! And oh yeah, DirectX 10, too. Nothing ran on my old DOS systems until I told it to run, and then it ran exactly *how* I told it to. I liked that! ;-) Nothing runs on

Upgrading XP Pro to Vista?
I can have it as a window, running as "live" wallpaper, or taking up the whole screen like a "regular" TV. An alternative is to buy a Dell with the cheapest Vista installed, and then reformat the harddisk entirely and install XP from scratch. I now have a smooth running system that does what I want it to do. I'm glad I UPGRADED to XP, I shouldn't have bothered to try and make this a multi-boot system.
