For developers, they just have to decide how far back they want to support, and test on the appropriate systems. Honestly, the multiple version problem seems 10.4, it isn't. My take on it is that if it takes more then I have to just get the user interface running, then how the hell do any applications get a show in. XP flew compared to this, and that is with the years of accumulated crap that it had to deal with as well. This was a fresh format and install, not an upgrade.

point about the YaST modules is that things have to be installed (and run) even when not needed. For example, if I remove SuSEfirewall2 the YaST module is still installed and it keeps running even when I don't want it to. Further, if I try to force it to be removed, it screws up YaST update.
